From The President

Whenever I walk along a creek I observe everything. I see native bushes blossoming next to flowing water, hear birds chirping calming melodies, and smell fragrant flowers. However, I also see plastic bags polluting the water, hear aluminum cans crushing under my feet, and smell trash blocking the trail. I lead California Water Conservancy to ensure a brighter future for California’s water supply – a future without pollution to observe. I look forward to making this change together. - Ayaan Raza

On April 2, 2024, Governor Gavin Newsom, in a joint address with the California Department of Water Resources, proclaimed that “the water system in California was designed for a world that no longer exists,” as he emphasized the need for more resilient water supplies. As California faces a climate-change affected future and the extreme droughts and flooding that come with it, a variety of issues ranging from plastic pollution to dilapidated infrastructure and freshwater contamination are putting increased pressure on California’s freshwater and marine resources. With positions informed by science, The California Water Conservancy combines local and statewide cleanups with advocacy and education initiatives to make the greatest impact.

Over the last three years, California Water Conservancy has organized several different cleanups, especially in the Northern California area as well as advocated for important environmental legislation in Sacramento, the California State Capitol. I (Ayaan) have conversed on multiple occasions with our California state senators, local District 7 council member Bien Doan, and the Mayor of San Jose, Matt Mahan, about pertinent environmental legislation and initiatives. Here are some pictures and videos from a few of our cleanups and advocacy trips.
